FREAKIN AWESOME WEEKEND!
im pretty tired today, but WED is a holiday!(note: therefore no xanga on WED) period 1&2 classes cancelled today so only one class later. i can now unload what happened the last few days. weekend went like this…
FRI: Book club mtg in the city. billiards and beer after. i stayed over. SAT: woke up, and had some lunch with some dudes, then went home, got costumed and went back to the city to pick ppl up and head off into traffic to go to the halloween party. party was sweet. left around midnite. stayed at jenna’s. SUN: woke up, scoped SOMBRERO’s for a burrito, no luck. bfast then deaf school festival. then japanese tea ceremony demonstration and class. hit SOMBRERO’s on the way back and it was open. sweet. went home and collapsed.
BOOK CLUB: perhaps you recall, we read the DA VINCI CODE. we actually had some decent discussion. we managed to stay on topic for about an hour or hour and a half. we even had pictures of the MONA LISA and THE LAST SUPPER to look at. my crowning moment of the evening was finding the big M in the last supper when everyone else had failed. i told them it was compositional. having burned thru the book in just the last week or so, it was all fresh. a ton of ppl showed up and dan has a big place that is really well-suited for parties. 15 ppl or so fit comfortable in the living room. then afterwards a few of us headed off to play POOL, which is dont particularly like, but i felt bonding was in order since i havent seen most of these ppl much since orientation. so we mostly ended up being more interested in the dry erase board at the pool hall and we played HANGMAN. the large size beer was atrociously large and i drank one whole one after which i was caught up in spirit with everyone else’s 2 or 3 big beers. guy, THATS HIS NAME, and i dicussed some of the finer points of LINGUISTICS. hes pretty interested and he knows some stuff like IPA and some acquisition theory, so i was impressed. plus he was pretty drunk yet still holding his end of the convo. hes a big guy, Guy. hehe. the billiards hall was connected to a bowling alley and a fun time arcade place. so we made printclub too. those little photo stickers. im still stunned everytime i see them. you think you know how small they are going to be, then they come out and you are shocked all over again. and somehow, once you get familiar with the electronic pen and the effects, 200 seconds isnt enough to make all the alterations you want for your images. its kind of sad. but in reality, IT S REALLY FUN!! i have saved some from each session.
i was going to drive home after that, but dan felt uncomfortable with that since i drank a big beer. so to calm him, i stayed. he felt that my loose tongue, swearing, biting sarcasm and misogynistic comments might be the big beer talking. i assured him that it was merely what im really like. and before was just a cover to protect new ppl from being shocked and offended, but now that i deemed them worthy, they could be privy to my calling them bitch and stuff. you know, THAT MEANS WE RE FRIENDS IN MY WORLD. they were fun and we went for lunch the next morning (me, dan, evan) and then i took off to return home and prep for the halloween party. dont get confused, it was a day early on saturday.
HALLOWEEN PARTY: it was awesome. it was also awesomely far. it took 3 hrs to get there. there was some heavy traffic by the city, or it would have been 2. had i known it was 3, i might not have gone, but i blame the traffic and i am glad i went. there was lots of food and about 4 kegs or something ridiculous. now these are japanese kegs so they are about half a keg if that. i drank nothing but milk tea the whole night because i was driving home the same night, but i had an awesome time still. the CLUB RAVE KID became the ECTASY DEALER which i guess was accurate. i used FRISK mints as my white pills. ppl surpassed my wildest dreams with these costumes. everyone went all out.
here is a PARTIAL list: “the Baumer” tennis player ben stiller from the royal tennanbaums, michaelangelo’s the David, little red ridinghood, the wolf, a jack o lantern, a sunkus (convenience store worker), a ninja, a cow, a monkey, rudolph the red nosed reindeer, jason (fri 13th), a farmer, a middle school boy and school girl, smokey the firepreventing squirrel, a samurai (full kendo gear), dorothy, a scuba diver with flippers and jelly fish, a priest, all 3 charlie’s angels done very well, a temple pilgrim, an octopus, a weird S&M policeman, an FBI agent, the chapped-lip dave chappelle crack addict, the atkins avenger (covered in bread and carbs), an african rain goddess (south african JET’s first halloween), ursula from little mermaid. ive forgotten a few im sure. these are the pix the janice the jack o lantern took at the party. she s a quick one. i might venture to the fuji store someday.
the town where we went, KAINAN, was way south. 3rd to last in tokushima. but the guy has a whole house otherwise all those ppl never would have fit. we barely fit as it was. and most ppl stayed over so there were rooms filled with ppls shit and futons. we used the high school’s parking lot. ppl were firing cap guns and setting off fireworks. im sure the neighbors were thrilled. damn foreigners. one of the best things was they set up a 4-SQUARE court in the empty room upstairs. that was awesome. a lot of ppl didnt know this game, but they learned quickly. if you recall the GREEN KEY WEEKEND BLOCK PARTY and the line for 4square on frat row, you might understand how this could work even tho we are all pretty grown. its an elementary school playground game. there was also a music/hangout room, and the kitchen was food and drinks room. a bunch of japanese ppl came too and that was cool. by midnite, ppl were getting might drunk and the genkan/shoe area was becoming hazardous to smokers who were also tipsy or beyond tipsy. there was a ton of shoes in there. so i left with the ninja, the sunkus worker and the middle school boy. we made it back to the city in under 2 hrs flying down the open road. we stayed at jenna’s. it was a relief to be out of the party since i wasnt prepared to stay up til 7 that night. and sleep would not have been an option before everyone else dropped im sure.
SUN: we woke up and jenna went off to church. god bless her. we tried for burritos, but the place wasnt open yet so we had cafe bfast and went to check out etty’s DEAF SCHOOL FESTIVAL. it was really cool too. some little children were SOOO happy about popcorn, they could barely contain themselves. i got some prizes and we ate hot dogs, ice cream, red bean soupy stuff, takoyaki (octopus batter balls) with yummy sauce. the school has babies all the way to senior high and they did an elaborate play. most of the kids are not totally deaf. some could speak a little. i learned OHAIYO and ARIGATOU in JAPANESE SIGN LANGUAGE. this reminded me that i know some AMERICAN sign language and how fun that was. I JUST WANT TO LEARN EVERY LANGUAGE. is that so much to ask? so after stuffing ourselves with food and sights of cute children, we went to the city park to some museum where they were having this tea thing.
JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY: ouch, my knees! but still really cool. there was a demonstration where we were the guests and then we got to try to make the tea ourselves with the little whisk thing and we served each other. they gave us super abridged pamphlets with only 20 directions each on how to eat the sweet, make the tea and accept the tea. there are infinitely more rules. some involve counting the rows of tatami to measure where to sit and how to arrange your stuff. some really small children served us. little girls who were just starting. you can start at age 5!! they explained only the major things like eating the sweet first to offset the bitter tea. and then we all had sore legs, so we went to try making the tea ourselves and the whole thing took about an hr or hr and a half. perfect intro to tea ceremony.
on the way back, even tho we were stuffed from the deaf school and the sweets, we hit the mexican place again-and this time he was open. now i know his hrs. so we had a snack and then headed off. i gave brian and christine a ride to see where they live in naruto and got home around 5. then i vegged on the couch for a few hrs and watched tv, too lazy to even unpack my stuff except sometimes between commercials. O CANADA.
GO LLOYD’S: i finally got that done. i m still not sure if it worth the extra money because ppl are STILL telling me things about the post office, but given laziness and peace of mind, i think i will keep doing to lloyds thing because its faster. it will only be occassionally and for a large sum so it should be worth it.
aww, thats sad. yes, HOMECOMING is fun and halloween makes for good parties too. but if i stay here next homecoming too, then ill miss the good ones when lots of ppl come home. o well, i didnt like most of those ppl anyway. hehe.
